Letter to Stirling Observer, 11th November

By | November 11, 2002

Sir,

Stirling Council’s call for the Albion Supporters’ Trust to be given seats on the Club’s board does not properly reflect our emerging priorities and on behalf of the Trust I wish to outline our perspective.

Yes, it would in our view be appropriate, in the medium to long term, for the Trust to have a seat on the board – but we have to earn acceptance of the Trust as a credible voice by both the Club and the community.

We can only achieve this by working hard to build support for the Club within the community, leading to greatly increased numbers through the turnstiles. If we all pull in the same direction, this should not be beyond our capabilities.

An approach has recently been made to the Club to get together to explore ways of co-operating to our mutual advantage.

We want the good folk of Stirling to join with us and get involved with the Trust. Membership is £10 per year per individual. Local businesses and organisations can also have a voice for the same sum. Membership for under-16’s, unemployed and students is £5 per year.

Anyone interested can contact me on 01786 824844, or Jim Thomson, our Secretary, on 01786 465496.

Finally, I would express the hope that the Club and Stirling Council can resolve their differences over the rental for Forthbank Stadium soon and without public acrimony. Nothing would be worse than a perpetuation of strife within the public gaze which can only distract attention from events on the field of play where Stirling Albion continue to maintain their current unbeaten sequence.

Yours etc.

Dick King
Chair, Stirling Albion Supporters’ Trust
