Active Stirling worked with the Stirling Albion Supporters Trust to organise a football festival for local primary schools to raise funds for the campaign.
Seven local primary schools and over 80 children and coaches took part in the festival at Forthbank on Wednesday 16th September 2009.
In glorious late afternoon sunshine the Active Stirling coaches organised a round robin football festival involving the following schools:
- St. Marys, Bannockburn
- St. Ninians
- Kincardine & Monteith
- Thornhill
- Braehead
- Cambusbarron
- Gargunnock
Fairplay awards were given on the day to Gargunnock (Fun Fours) and St. Ninians (Soccer Sevens). Both schools will receive a free coaching session from a Stirling Albion player.
All schools taking part received ten tickets for a Stirling Albion home match, a signed ball and squad picture from club sponsors Prudential. Honorary membership for the school was also given by Stirling Albion Supporters Trust for supporting the campaign.
Close to £300 was raised for the campaign fund.
Steven Leiper from the Buystirlingalbion campaign team said : “It was great to see so many schools and children turning out to offer support for the campaign. There was a great fun atmosphere, lots of colour with all the different football strips and lot’s of energy and skill. I hope all the children and coaches enjoyed it and we can do it again next year. Thanks to all the schools and Active Stirling’s football development staff for making the festival happen."
Scott Kinross, SFA Active Stirling Football Development Officer said: “It proved to be a huge success holding this event to help support the campaign funds and pr campaign, all the children, parents and teachers seemed to enjoy themselves and the gifts provided by the Prudential was also fantastic. A big thank also to the Active Stirling football coaches who co-ordinated the festival smoothly on the day."
